A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, is a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they control the land and secure leases to drill for oil and gas. Like foremen on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (the men’s camp), set up excavators, and drill the well themselves, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixers, problem solvers, and helpers.

Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have the same expectations that Yellowstone fans seem to have. The main story so far is engaging and exciting, but it doesn’t go too far. There are a few subplots that flow well through the episodes, but perhaps one of them detracts from the overall quality of the show.
The actors are great at portraying their characters
The visual production is amazing; the direction and the environmental design are to be admired. It would be interesting to hear the perspective of the people working in the field, how realistic the outdoor scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really carries the show well.
